In 2007, I attended the ESRI conference in San Diego. One of the things that I remember most is; "My goodness this is a lot of people.". I t gives you a chance to meet a lot of people that do what you do. But there is the question of; How do you find them? You travel a long way and tweeted the while you were waiting to get here, but now it's time to talk to real people. This is why you invest in Pro Networks like Twitter. You're here! Don't tweet up. Meet up. But there still lies the issue of how to find who does what you do. There are too many people to ask. I won't be there but I did have an idea when I was at the User Conference. But hold on, I am about to post a very cool template. How can a template be cool? If you have been burned trying to integrate the JavaScript API with AJAX, I will be posting a working example that uses .NET 4.0, AJAX 4.0, JSAPI 2.0, and working examples in the Script libraries including round corners with Rico, drag with scriptaculous, panel layouts with Dojo, using server controls to run your ArcGIS Server JavaScript API 2.0 functions within AJAX.
Thought I would tell you about this as it's free, it works and it will be extended. But back to my idea on how to find others that do what you do. Be part of a theme so when you go home you can have a virtual team.
At work, you need tweet-ability. At conferences you need visibility. My thought, what if others new what you did as soon as they saw you? I created four shirts on my spreadshirt store. There are four colors and a GIS professional skill area reference for GIS - managers, developers, users, and cartographers. You can buy these if you want or where your own shirt and write on it. If you want one of these and don't have time before you travel; have it sent to where you are staying. I am more interested in attendees making connections. But there are too many people to meet in such a short time and finding a valuable connection can be invaluable.
No matter what enjoy the conference. I will be tweeting.
Talk to you soon.
Chris
